Stockton Wheelers Open '10'

Curran goes home to break records

National road race champion Paul Curran broke course and event record with a time of 20-49 in Saturday's Stockton Wheelers '10' run off in a thunderstorm.

The world championship selection knocked 25 seconds off the previous best for this T102 course, held by his Manchester Wheelers-Trumanns clubmate Ian Cammish.

And it was a special occasion for the promoting club because Curran is a life-member, a valued "old boy" who used to ride in their colours before switching to Manchester Wheelers. Curran's previous fastest was 20-41 seven years ago at the tender age of 19. Second was Bill Hart (Ferryhill Wheelers) in 21-27.
